If your scout has never gone camping before, this is a list of the basic camping gear that he will need to go on a campout with the Troop.
Please remember that much of our camping requires us to carry in/out personal gear…and often Troop supplies.
This means that our scouts will need to be able to, not only carry his own gear, but will need to have his hands free to carry Troop supplies.
When shopping, please keep that in mind and look for the lightest and the most compact gear possible that will fit your budget.
If you know that your son will continue in scouting for a few years, it's strongly advised to spend a little more to get lighter and more compact gear and a backpack that is designed for hiking/camping.
Since our leaders have their own gear to carry in/out of camp, they cannot be responsible for carrying scout gear.
For more information on recommended clothing for various camping seasons, please refer to chapter 9 in the BSA Handbook.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ELECTRONICS OF ANY KIND (CD PLAYERS, HANDHELD GAMES, CELL PHONES, ETC) ARE NOT PERMITTED AT TROOP ACTIVITIES. ALL SCOUT LEADERS HAVE CELL PHONES…A LIST IS AVAILABLE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE NUMBERS.
All Friday night departures for campouts are from the Rushmore Parking Lot at 7:30pm. Dinner should be eaten prior to departure.
